Challenge: Add two entry lobbies and remodel a 1960’s office building. Update the building’s image and add definition and character, while respecting the existing building style.
Concepts: Two new lobbies were centered on the east and west façades, ushering visitors and staff into the building. Conceived as glass cubes, the lobbies push outward into the garden and open onto the central interior hallway. Linking the indoors with the outdoor, the aluminum storefront envelope is topped with flat roofs, cantilever to shelter the entry doors. The stucco soffits and sheet metal fascias are cued by existing building elements, and fit below the existing roof fascia, expressing the lobbies’ hierarchical import while maintaining human scale and without dominating the building form.
